Helping Youth Heal from the Trauma of Sex Trafficking & Exploitation
Youth who have endured sexual exploitation and trafficking experience complex trauma that can take years to process and heal. Our clients present with multiple trauma-related problems which can include post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression, self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation, previous suicide attempts, elopement behavior, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, school anxiety, and low self-esteem. These trauma-related problems impact our clients’ ability to establish safe and healthy relationships, interfere with their ability to make healthy decisions in regards to self-care, and impact their potential to gain an education. It can disrupt their sense of self, rob them of childhood experiences, and destroy their belief in the world being a safe place. The Covering House program is designed to start the restoration process in all of these areas while helping youth discover who they are without the shame of their pasts.
