Trafficking 101 (1 hr.): This training will give participants an overview of trafficking, utilizing TCH statistics and case studies.  Participants will also explore vulnerabilities of potential victims and our opportunities to intervene.  This training provides important information about how pimps lure children and teenagers into the life of trafficking. An in-depth look at the trafficking subculture and language indicators will help identify potential red flags. This training can be used for parents, caregivers, leadership, youth leaders, staff of agencies working with kids, teachers, etc.

Internet Safety (1 hr.): This training will give participants an overview of the dangers of online sexual exploitation, safety settings, and safety tips to teach youth when engaging online, including in chat apps, video games, and social media.

*Vicarious & Secondary Trauma: A Sensory Strategy (3 hrs.): This training is designed to provide education for those adults in the lives of children who have endured complex trauma. Participants will get a better understanding of trauma, the impairments that might accompany it, along with techniques on how to manage these behaviors. There will also be an opportunity to learn about what you as a therapeutic helper may need to cope and what practices you could implement to destress.

*Cultural Diversity (1.5 hrs.):  Living in the United States, our culture is a melting pot of different cultures. Whether it’s small town versus big city, urban versus rural, baby boomers versus millennials and spaghetti being served as a main course or a side dish, there are differences everywhere. This training provides participants a chance to explore culture diversity in order to become culturally competent. The training will also explore the culture of trafficking and exploitation and how it affects youth today.

*Trauma-Focused Youth Development Professional Certification: Certification program is ideal for youth-serving professionals, especially those working in a residential setting. All 7 modules are required for the certification or they can be done individually.

TRAININGS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL AGED YOUTH

Reducing the Risk (RTR) is designed to educate students, teachers, parents, and caregivers on sexual exploitation and trafficking. Together, we’ll discuss healthy relationships, setting boundaries, and navigating the internet safely. We’ll teach you how to recognize the red flags and what self-protective factors you can put into place to reduce the risk of experiencing this trauma. RTR consists of 5 one-hour training sessions on these topics:

  • Trafficking 101: What trafficking and exploitation look like in our community, myths vs. facts, and identifying red flags

  • Internet Safety: Safety settings and practical habits to practice when engaging online, including in chat apps, video games, and social media

  • Healthy Boundaries & Safe People: Setting healthy boundaries and identifying safe people to talk to when boundaries are crossed

  • Trauma Bonding: The bond that is created through trauma and how it affects a survivor’s mentality and healing process

  • Consent: What is consent, the different types of consent, and removing the guilt or shame associated with consent

RTR sessions can be customized to fit your needs. The Covering House staff can be available for students needing additional support.

Presentations and trainings may be customized to accommodate various audiences and timeframes.
