Missouri Tax Credits

The Covering House has two tax credit program incentives for Missouri tax-paying donors. Eligible donors may receive tax credits of 50% or 70% of their donations. Tax credits allow you to claim 50% or 70% of your donation as credit on your Missouri State taxes, lessening the amount of taxes you owe to Missouri. For example, when you give a $1,000 donation with a 50% tax credit, if you owe taxes to Missouri, your taxes will be reduced by $500.

Tax credits are different and in addition to taking a federal and state charitable tax deduction. Tax credits can also be used, regardless if you itemize your donations or take the standard deduction on your tax return.

100% of your donation will be used to change lives at The Covering House. Our clients will learn resiliency in the face of their trauma, work towards high school graduation, and achieve goals for their well-being, all because of your generosity.

The MO Dept. of Social Services Domestic Violence Shelter Tax Credits
70% of Donation Amount in State Tax Credits
Suggested donation of $1,000

The Covering House has been awarded an unlimited amount of tax credits from the Missouri Department of Social Services through its Domestic Violence Shelter and Rape Crisis Center Tax Credit program. This tax credit incentive is available for individuals or businesses who owe taxes to the State of Missouri and give a donation of cash, stock, bonds, real property or other marketable securities to The Covering House anytime from July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2024. Tax credits issued are 70% of the value of the qualifying contributions.

Please note that the amount of the claimed tax credit may not exceed the amount of the taxpayer’s state income tax liability for the year the credit is being claimed. The tax credit cannot exceed $50,000 per taxable year (the equivalent of a $71,428.57 donation). Unused tax credits can be rolled over for one subsequent year.

The MO Dept. of Revenue Champion for Children Tax Credits

Any individual or corporation that has Missouri income tax liability and makes a contribution of $100+ is eligible to receive 50% of the donation amount as a refund through Champion for Children Tax Credits. The full 50% is likely, but not guaranteed in the first year. Unused tax credits can be rolled over for four subsequent years. Tax returns claiming this tax credit must be filed by April 15 to receive tax credits.
